The purposes of this blog

Hey all, this blog is mainly going to be used as a way for me to talk about the various books that I have read and will read in the upcoming months and years. I have been out of school for about six months now, yet I still have a desire to think about the books that I read (mainly for fun) accompanied with different theories and ideas from my studies. For instance, I read Cormac McCarthy's The Road a couple months ago and thought that it would be really interesting and cool to think about that text with Jane Bennett's Vibrant Matter. Bennett's book deals heavily with ideas surrounding new materialism and thing-power, which is just as weird as it sounds - but in a good way.

This blog will portray my personal feelings, ideas and thoughts as I encounter different books. While I am mostly using this for fun, I hope to eventually write some form of academic papers or articles that will eventually be published, so this is a good place to start in forming different ideas.

Thanks to my friend Garcia, from Rutgers, who suggested the name for this blog: Spinecracker. It definitely works for both books and films - the idea of reading and studying a book so much that it's spine bends and cracks is something that a lot of us can relate to.

Also, I plan on thinking about film adaptations and some of my favorite films in an academic sense - much of them being horror films, which fits the name of this blog nicely.

Anyway, I hope to post some content very soon (and work on the layout too)!
